David has been a member of the APSOCAAA since 1989. He was a founding member of Old Haileybury Athletics Club in this year and its inaugural President. He has represented the club more than 150 times in APSOC races and along the way has been a winner of the Most Improved Award on two occasions. Through David’s commitment, vision and leadership, the Haileybury Athletics Club has grown into one of the largest and strongest clubs in the Association.
David was member of the APSOC Executive for a number of years and filled the position of President with distinction in 1999-2000.
He was the driving force behind development of the Williamson Relay in 1993. The race has continued since then as one of the team premiership events. David has played an integral role in the setting up and running of the event. He has been the main source of communication between APSOC and Haileybury College, and has managed the setting up of the course and overall coordination of the event throughout its history.
David has regularly acted as an official at both APSOC and Athletics Victoria events to further demonstrate his commitment to the sport. His desire to see our great Association promoted more heavily to the schools and to open links with students led to his plan to develop an annual event at which Old Collegians and current schoolboys would compete together. Through David’s tireless efforts, the first Challenge Relay was developed and run in 2000. The event continued until 2004 and was re-introduced under a revised format in 2007.
David was elected a Life Member in 2007.
