83 athletes enjoyed beautiful autumnal weather for the season-opener at Churchill Park on Saturday. It was decided to run the course in the reverse direction from previous years, which meant that the narrow and twisting bush track section was run uphill, making the course generally safer for athletes.
Ant Rickards (OW) made a strong return to the competition in the 12k, while Tessa Craig (OH) ran a fast 6k. Cameron Tennant (OW) and Dean Gasson (OH) were the handicap winners, while Mark Purvis (OS) managed to be runner-up in both handicap and fastest time categories in the 6k. There were many promising debuts from new athletes, including Michaela Parsons (OW), auguring well for a strong and vibrant competition this year. APSOC was pleased to welcome 16 young runners from St Patrick’s College in Brisbane as guests of St Kevin’s.
