Stuart Facey commenced running with Old Scotch as a junior in 1968 and ran (and walked) every season until 2015. He would be one of the most consistent APSOC runners over almost five decades of winter events. His enthusiasm for cross country saw him finish better than half way up the field in most APSOC events and he was often one of the Spartans, completing every event. Stuart was also a regular in the successful APSU 50+ team. He won the Jamieson Handicap (2005) and the Lodge 16k Handicap (1988) and recorded a best marathon time of 2:47:29.
Stuart was APSOC’s second longest serving Secretary, having held office from 1981 to 1989. It was during this period that Old Brighton and Old Haileybury joined the Association, which itself changed from being the APS Old Boys Amateur Athletic Committee to the more inclusive APS Old Collegians Amateur Athletic Association, and also became an incorporated body. Stuart was instrumental in guiding the Association through that period of change.
Stuart clearly met the requirements for nomination as a Life Member of the Association, both by his long association as a competitor and as Secretary of the Association for nine years. He was elected a Life member in 2007.
